Being a Grandma Means . . . .

  • Finding a used Scoobby Doo bandage in your pocket, because it was the only kind in the house when you cut your finger . . . the princess ones were AWOL at the moment (this is what prompted this post)
  • Owning a minivan, even though all of your kids are grown
  • Having pretzel scraps all over in your minivan
  • Having a minivan with up to 5 kiddie seats
  • Mending the knees of cute little jeans when you baby is 25 years old
  • Having a huge collection of leak proof sippy cups so that each grandchild has his or her favorite color when they come over
  • Knowing which sippy cups actually don't leak!
  • Finding little black Sunday shoes under the edge of your bed, because there are no shoes allowed on the bed . . you know, when you are jumping on it . . . which of course, is also not allowed ;-)
  • Having a crib in your "guest room" . . . . only a crib.
  • Having a "camping bed" on the floor of your bedroom, permanently
  • Having a second hand toy store in your family room corner and the "monkey room" AKA the tropical guest room
  • Having several bins full of stickers, glue sticks, kid safe scissors, construction paper, crayons, colored pencils, and washable markers
  • Having a shelf full of soy free goodies for one grand child and another collection of goodies for the rest . . . and of course rice cheese in the fridge
  • Keeping Popsicles in the freezer in case someone goes poop in the pottie, even if it is a grown up
  • Always having apple juicey in the house
  • Owning 10, yes 10, pocket bibs
  • You need another silverware drawer to house all the various sizes of spoons and forks you have collected
  • ALWAYS having macawoni in the cupboard, ready to cook at a moment's notice, sometimes so that they will eat the dinner they refused to eat the night before at home
  • A drawer full of diapers (various sizes), pull ups (whatever was on sell), Thomas the train under wear and a few princess panties
  • Yard sale clothes up to size 6 for playing in or emergency accidents
  • A back yard slowly filling up with yard sale equipment for kids to play on
  • Acute, crotchety old guy hangs around from time to time, just not often enough!
  • Being taught all over again by precious, wise, young children . . . it's the little things in life that makes it so wonderful

I need to take a few lessons from you! I need a crib-but don't have room to put it in, I need some indoor toys but I do have a craft basket full of artsy stuff. I always have ramen noodle soup on hand but no bibs I think I need to work on that one.
As always thanks for the example you are!
