I have been spending a little more time with the grandsons lately. Partly because I have missed them while I was working on projects with deadlines and partly so that Mariah can finish getting ready for "Baby G" (according to Rob and Brianna) or Aticus Stephen (according to Gabriel). They always surprise me with their observations in life. Friday night Gabriel came over for his weekly spend the night at Nanny's. We went to Costco for a couple of things, including a broasted chicken. While I was picking one out, he said"whatcha doin' Nanny, getting a dead chicken?" Now I grew up on a farm and have helped with butchering chickens then and when we had some laying hens age out on us almost 20 years ago ... but ... times roll on. I lost my appetite right on the spot.
Breakfast, Saturday morning:
I had picked all the oranges a few days before and discovered that they were not the kind I thought we had planted, not a belly button in the bunch! When I asked Gabriel if he would like to squeeze them with me, he looked at me like I was nuts! I asked him if he knew where orange juice came from, he said no, so I showed him! Fun, but a little strong for him. He usually gets diluted juice.
After breakfast, it was time to make apple worms and a slinky apple. Fun morning and a great way to make breakfast way more interesting.

It's always fun when they reach that age where their mind is really "Thinking". I remember when William heard Crystal and I talking in the van about butchering a steer for hamburger! Oh MY! He refused to eat it and was horrified when grandma told him about chicken meat and piggy's! Not a good idea! That's when we had to start calling hamburgers "Crabby Patty's". That term is still used with her kids. In case you don't watch Sponge Bob a crabby patty is a hamburger and they don't come from Cow's in Sponge Bob Land-to the kids anyway! Good for you to have weekly stay overs.
Sorry, we always ask him if he wants dead cow or dead pig or dead whatever kind of meat we're having. We haven't done it in awhile, but I guess he remembered it. He did NOT grow up on a farm and has no idea what it entails to get meat to our tables.
Side note: Last night Jay Leno did his funny headlines. Someone sent in an editorial that said something to the effect of shame on all the hunters that go out and kill all those innocent animals. You should get your meat at the store where the meat was made and no animals were harmed. Stephen and I both laughed out loud.
so much fun!! Your grandkids must have a blast over at your house. I think that is great that they get to spend such quality time with you!! Those are such great memories for them to build!!!
