Being a Grandma Means . . . . Update <:- }

Last Thursday and today I got to babysit the my dollies (as Arianna put it). Last week I had Garrett and Linc here at the same time and today, mostly, just Linc. It is so fun to watch the cousins playing and giving us a little bit of a fit to stay and play longer.

I was the youngest cousin by at least a couple of years on Dad's side and there was an eight year gap between me and all of the younger cousins on both sides of the family, so I really didn't grow up playing this way.

Today, Arianna, once again, walked in and told me that I really should clean up my house. She decided to help me, just the way Garrett has lately. With this kind of help, the world would never have been the earth created in "six days"!

As I am picking up tonight, I have realized that being a Grandma also means,
  • Finding the whole of talking dictionary tapes strung all over the place, each piece separated from its companion picture booklet. The tapes should be carefully stashed in the little people garage.
  • Finding a wet (no poopie) diaper on the couch, not really rolled up very well. But Linc did go home comfortable!
  • Finding sippy cups in all the wrong places, not on the table or counter.
  • Finding a half eaten bowl of creamy mac & cheese hidden on the table under a newspaper ad. It wasn't orange after all, just kind of creamy white. Arianna had to explain the problem Tati was having to me.
  • Cute little pink butterfly sweat jacket tucked neatly down in the couch cushion.
  • Little round dowel blocks everywhere! Watch your step, Linc is out to break the neck of all grownups!!
  • NO little cellophane pieces anywhere on the floor. All the kids know that those are so dangerous for baby Linc and watch for them constantly. Good thing since they now think of me as Nanny Mint (wintergreen lifesavers).
  • No matter how full the TP roll starts out, it is empty by the end of the day! Usually the soap squirter in the bathroom is also empty, even though all of those little hands are perpetually sticky!
  • Little block towers on every level surface the kids can reach.
  • Remnants of slinky apples tucked in interesting little spots, and hopefully have all been found.
  • Having so many cherished little memories that have come from the mouths of my little darlin's that warm my heart, humble me and make me feel like one of the most blessed of God's daughters.

Children and Grandchildren...they are a blessing. They keep us on our toes, yes, but they are a joy! Sorry that Tati had an issue with the "White" mac 'n' cheese. Poor little girl...I think she is just a little tired of her whole little world changing faster than she can process it. Mom and dad with new jobs, new home, new schedules...etc. I just keep trying to love her through all her little break-downs.
