Today, I was the last to leave the apartment where my son and his family have been living for over two years. Just before I left, I walked through one more time. the life had left. I t felt so empty, with no feeling at all. I couldn't believe all the time that had passed since we had been so happy there was somewhere they could move quickly when their last apartment flooded for the second time. The girls had grown so much. So many memories had been made. And now, they had moved on.
I went to the office and turned in the keys, that was it, just handed them over. Such a simple little thing, and it makes such a difference.
This is what brought the questions to my mind, "What does make a house a home? What brings it to life? What creates the feeling that makes you want to just pull up a chair and settle in?"

It can be a high rise,

Or a more humble cabin,

Perhaps something a little more mobile

And then there are those tucked neatly in a row.

Perhaps something that will shed the snow quickly & efficiently.

How about a little something of the Fred Flintstone persuasion.
Wide open spaces will give you plenty of fresh air . . . . .
And then what seems to be my personal favorite . . . the eternal work in progress :< }
But really . . . . what makes a house a home? We do. All who live and love within the walls. Those who visit and make memories within those walls. Those who come together as two families did today, to help one daughter and two grand daughters move and prepare to start a new phase of their lives while the husband and daddy is away. Who come together to celebrate the anniversary of when one of those grand daughters joined our blessed families.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ARIANNA . . . I HOPE YOU AND YOUR CAN SETTLE IN YOUR NEW HOME QUICKLY!!!

Oh thanks for this post! It's just so true. We sit and worry about all the little details of our home and even compare it to others. We use it to judge another's, and even our own success, when it is really nothing without the family. I've lived in many different places and I always realized that it was home as long as my husband and children were there. Thanks for the reminder.
Nice post Sharron!
Thanks for the post, the birthday wishes...and especially for all the help you and your family provided in our time of need. Between my two families we made it happen...not the way we planned, but still. The funny thing is that later that night I reflected on leaving that apartment, and how I didn't really say goodbye to it. Many memories, good times and bad, the growth of my little ones, and so much more happened in those walls. I am happy to have a new house in our future. One we can call our own, and make our HOME for many years to come. Thanks to everyone who helped me with this move. I could not have done it without help!
beautiful! what a great reminder of what is important!
