Going, going, almost gone ;-0

We have officially been in this house for 16 years. When we got here, there was a pretty neat big old pepper willow tree on the east side of the front yard. Rob and Sarah both enjoyed climbing in it, getting covered with sap, tearing their clothes and just having general good fun. Over time, we found out that a fair number of kids liked using it to play under it as a fort or playhouse because it was so over grown.

About ten years ago we saw the roots lifing out of the ground because of the side trunk (one of three) was so heavy. Jon took that one off with my help. It was pretty exciting. I held the ladder to keep him upright when the branch's weight fell.
The branch still sprung up a lot and almost threw
him off while the branch came down on top of my
head. Those suckers are heavy!

The next branch came down in the middle of the
street, planned, so the guys could cut it up and haul off.

Fast forward, ten years ... I told Mariah I really wanted to get that mess out of here, she mentioned it to Stephen, he brought it up when they were over here and we set the day for January 4, before Stephen hits his busy season.
On Friday night as I was leaving my house, they asked if it was still in the plan for the next day. Of course I said yes then went home and ruined Jon's night by reminding him.
Those have to be one of the nastiest plants to
deal with. Stephen has lots ofexperience doing this
kind of stuff since he was in YM as an adult leader
and now in the elder's quorum. That turkey really knows how to pack the stuff in so we just kept cutting, lopping and loading up. We still have one "trunk" left that started as a sucker which grew after the first trunk was taken off ten years ago. It looks like about 8" in diameter with a trunk that is HUGE! The guys think it is ugly, to me it's kind cool ... maybe with some vines growing around it? From up the street it looks like it is right out of a Dr. Seuss book and matches the rest of the "landscaping" perfectly ....
Sorry neighbors, but I am working in it!

Completely different tree! Looks realy good. It always feels so good when you get some huge project done like that and especially when it makes such a difference.

My truck is tougher than yours. Ha ha ha just kidding. Stephen's clothes stunk the whole hall up like pepper willow that night. Gabriel and Garrett sure loved seeing "Man work".
