I Finally Got My Sister!

In November of 1968, my oldest brother married the cutest little gal named Cheryl.  We were so happy about that day.  The first time my mom and I met her, they were on their way to a Christmas Formal.  They came by so we could meet her and see them in all their finery.  As we closed the front door when they left, Mom and I both said at the same time, "If he doesn't marry her, we'll wring his neck!"  /We already loved her.  It took quite a few months, but they did finally tie the knot.

Though I have been in quite a few wedding lines, this was a favorite one for me.  I felt like I had finally gotten the sister I had dreamed of for many years.

When Jon and I were dating, I was over there a LOT to talk to her and get some advice from time to time . . .  OK, all the time.  Jon was so different and I just had no idea what to think of some of the things he did or said.  She encouraged me and helped me hang in there with patience until he finally broke down and "proposed" (that's another story!).

There were some problems at home, so that was my refuge and she was my listening ear.

Last week while I was in Livermore visiting some relatives before I picked Sarah up to start home, I got the call that she was in the hospital and in very serious condition AKA they almost lost her.  It would have been such a terrible loss for many, friends and family.

Today, she was finally moved out of ICU and into a regular room.  I am so grateful for the gospel and the priesthood.  I know that she is still with us because of the faithful prayers of many and the power of priesthood blessings.

I am also so very thankful for the first sister that a marriage brought to me.

Oh man I'm glad Cheryl is okay. I don't think I have ever met her, well I take that back I think I did meet her once when we came down shopping for fabric when we were sewing for that church movie, anyway you have always spoken fondly of Cheryl and I'm so happy she is doing better.
