This morning I got mad and decided to "play house" for a few minutes. Huh? I set the goal a loooooong time ago to get to the point that I could take each Monday to polish my kitchen to a brilliant shine. Believe it or not, I haven't always been drowning in junque! I sort, clean, dust, sneeze, box, haul off, sneeze, cough and sweep, then sneeze some more. Not fun for an asthmatic! Procrastination has brought my life to a halt while I recover my home from the warehouse it has become.
So this morning I pretended that I had the time to do those fun things that I dreamed of when I was at this stage of life (picture, not an old grandma). Remember how fun it was? You would pretend to mix your cake or cookies. Roll them out, put them into your pretend stove. Of course that was no bowl to lick ;->
Actually I had a little stove that really got hot. I just found in the attic. None of this easy bake nonsense for me . . . OK . . it was the 50"s and my mom was very cool when it came to providing fun toys for me. I look back and I am pretty blown away. My "play" iron also plugged in and just got warm, but that stove got HOT ! My wringer washer ran on batteries, when we could buy some as did the little hand mixer . . . . when we could buy batteries. I spent a lot of time under a card table with a sheet hanging over it.
The good thing about pretend food, I wasn't restricted to what was laying around made out of plastic. I could make enchiladas, salad, anything that I thought sounded good. The one time my mom joined me in a "tea party" she made a special treat to go with our kool-aid tea . . . carrot and raisin salad. AARRGGHH! I had to eat it after all the trouble she went to, but oh how I hate that stuff!! I have wondered if ornery ole gal sat there and watched me gagging to down to not hurt her feelings. That would be so like her!
The best thing was of course it was very easy clean-up! Since real life isn't so easy, I was satisfied with a little shining up on my shakers, refilling them and consolidating a few things like all of my red chile powder is in one shaker now. My it felt good!

Yes, my playtime growing up was very different than my current reality...in so many ways! But we make do.
My desire today is not to spend time in my kitchen, but rather, I want to spend some time cleaning in my room tonight...maybe I will just set other things aside so I can do so. :)
Hey count your blessings she didn't server her gourmet fried green tomatoes with that carrot and raisin salad! :-D
Carrot and raisin salad is disgusting I also hate when people put carrots and raisins in rice pudding-why ruin a perfectly good rice pudding?
I so remember those days of playing house and barbie's! My favorite thing to do was build a fort and then play house. LOVED IT!
