This was another day that started at about 3:30 am. Not making Nanny a happy camper. I was in the family room figuring out how to get pictures from this computer to posting when cute little Garrett came in and snuggled up. Boy do those little scamps know how to wrap me around their little pinkies! He chattered while I finished up and then decided that he would not hold me to the promised macaroni for breakfast. If he could have Papa eggs and waffles, he would be glad to wait until lunch for the mac and cheese.
Jon had some loose ends to tie up and then we got to business. I went out back with the boys to keep them out from under Papa's feet. While they played in the tree water, I cut wood and found the rest of the stuff to make some boats like Garrett saw in a book awhile back. Didn't have any dowels for masts, so we went to the store for those and a couple of other things we needed for some of our projects. The boys had a hard time holding it together but did in the end, so we had a nice lunch time and got the ugliest little boats finished, just not dried.
First on the list was to get the new faucet into the front bathroom. Going from no hot water and the cold dripping to no water was not our idea of fun, especially when it meant letting the boys have free rein of our bathroom. Only one extra trip to Lowe's got the extension and gaskets we needed.
Next we needed to get the new light up over the front door to replace the one that was sitting on the porch. Only one more trip to Lowe's to get the extra parts to get it into place. It is supposed to be hanging from a chain that was supposed to loop into a big ring . . but that made it hang down to far, so Jon worked with it until it was high enough. It is a little large . . or maybe I am just used to seeing that dinky little thing that was stuck up there, probably from the original house construction. The white definitely needs to be softened!
This is a a linen closet right next to the kitchen, in our 3 foot hall that has long been the "hall pantry". For 18 years this is what I have had to hunt through. This is with the door open in Jon's radio room to let in the sunlight from his window.
Then Jon went along with my idea to use the wiring hanging there from an old smoke alarm, to give my poor old tired eyes something to see with. This little light is so small in diameter, that we had to use one of those little ceiling medallions to give the light a base to rest against. He even managed to add the little pull chain switch so that I could turn it off and on easily. I have decided to find some cute little sunflowers to cover those black screw heads. They were necessary to secure everything and so I assured Jon I would do something to "hide" them . . making sure that everyone passing by noticed where we were hiding something.
This is the lovely results. I can find stuff so quickly now! I showed Jon tonight and he was definitely not as impressed as he should have been.

He grumbled a bit when I told him I wanted to take his picture with the porch light and asked why I wanted it. When I told him that I wanted to post a picture of a different angle of him, since the others have tended to be his back side, this is all he would give me. He called it my "tired, dejected old husband". The sun was down and he had to really hustle to get it done so we could turn on the lights inside the house that we would need.
We are both hoping that the light above the garage is not as problematic as this one was. It is higher, bigger, heavier and I won't be able to get up there to help hold it while he is attaching the wires . .. YIKES! Wish I hadn't thought of that one.
I'm glad that tomorrow is Sunday. We have both pushed hard through the whole week and need the rest and the strengthening of our souls. I am so thankful that we are being guided in our efforts to get our home back in good shape and ready for another hot searing summer. It has been hard to watch it deteriorate and not be able to do much about it.
Those little temporal tender mercies we have been blessed with have been so wonderful. I am enjoying better health than I have in several years and my body is holding up to all the physical stress I have been imposing upon it. I seem to have an extra little sense of when to stop or realize that I have reached my limit for each day. I feel guidance in my life since seeking it. Why is it so hard to swallow my pride and ask for that guidance?

Sharron it looks fantastic! I can't wait to see everything you've done!
A couple of good lights can really make things better! (A bunch of bad "light" puns came to mind...but I will spare you those for now!!!)
Have fun with all the little fixes and improvements! i'm excited for you! I have lots of plans to fix things around our house (mostly garage), as soon as the school year ends.
