I'm counting, counting ,
counting . . .
We got a call from Sarah this evening, just as I sat down to do some ward cannery work. Her car had died in the middle of an intersection, as she drove home from a long day at the range. We loaded up and drove down to the Circle K parking lot. Jon did some stuff ( the kind that I don't have to do since talking him into marrying me), and we hooked it up, towed it to her house a few blocks away.
The engine is stuck. Not sure why, unless it is a broken timing belt. Not good news. Poor Jon is at his wits end. Yes, our faithful old truck is still guarding the front door, the Bravada has a strange "spare tire" (an air pump that will plug into the lighter in case of a flat) . . . and you should see the look Jon just gave me while reading over my shoulder . . .! He is about to lose his mind and his dorky wife is making a bad joke about his extreme measures to keep our "fleet" and family mobile.
Sometimes, I think we are hanging on to all of our junque just for spares because this keeps happening.
The good news: I made cheese yesterday and pressed it. It is good stuff! I'm pretty excited. I grated it into some beans. It reminds me of the white cheese that came up from Mexico when I was a little girl. It would make good pizza too, I finally got my method down! Now to get my bread back where it used to be, too. The last batch was OK, but I probably let it rise a little too much . . . My mixer is giving out and I can no longer get parts for it, so I may get rid of my "angel wings" soon. Kneading bread by hand is great exercise for that little (HA!) problem. Good for the ABS as well, did you know that?
Anyway, I am thankful that the truck is stuck on our own property, that Sarah didn't get stranded until she was close to home, where she could get help, didn't get hurt in the traffic with a car that stopped at the wrong place, at the wrong time, and that I have the health, strength and warped mind that can laugh at the thought of returning to the Basics, pioneer style. I am thankful for that Crystal posted that talk today with Elder Wirthlin's talk. Talk about good timing, the reminder was just right for me! I am also thankful the I have a husband that will let me get a little weird when the world is pressing down on us and let me use my Weaver sense of humor to lighten life up . . even join me in the dumb cracks to survive. Again, I am blessed.
Anyone have any sugar for this lemonade . . . I might need some soon ;-)
