BOUNTIFUL BASKETS, THE VIRGIN PICK-UP

Today was the first delivery and pickup for Bountiful Baskets at our neighborhood elementary school. The deliveries at Jacob's Park had reached the limit (100) every week, so those were pretty hairy get all sorted out and into the baskets. though there were always lots of volunteers, so it went surprisingly fast.

Instead of a "sea of baskets" we just had a little pond, but we sure that it will grow fast. Some of the employees at the school were pretty excited when they heard about it and are interested. Unfortunately, they were all out for Fall break, so I couldn't let them know that our first pick up was scheduled. There were also some who thought it would be disorganized since it was our first time . . . ;-D so they went back down to Jacob's Park for one last pick up. Silly girls, didn't know we had been helping down at Jacob's Park for months. Joan and Amy had it organized really well, you have to with that many coming! We just learned by working with them and actually did a little tweeking that we had planned.

We will add some better signs next week and as the group grows, hopefully so
will the number of volunteers. So it should always go well and be completed in a timely manner. Lots going on this time of year, so we all need to do and get on with our days! The volunteers that come first thing as the truck arrives, usually spend 2 hours at the most.

Here are some of the money wise, produce loving coop members in line. First to get the "conventional baskets" and then to the other side of the driveway for their Mexican Packs (they were huge this time and did I ever regret not getting on when I saw them) and the orders of bread.

I think our biggest problem will be how to recycle all the cardboard boxes!

i am so excited with my bountiful basket! i picked up 8 standard baskets, 5 mexican packs, and 1 pack of bread. they thought i was nuts, but i gotta make the 40 minute drive worth it. i already talked to the site director about getting a site in hurricane. she made it sound simple: get a list of 30 people who want it, train with her once or twice and find a good location. i see yours is outside. the cedar city one was indoor and she said that was the hardest part, but i figure we aren't as cold as them that we could do ours outside. i am so excited! i am going to make chili rellenos right now with a roasted tomatillo sauce. and i already steamed and froze the green beans for future use. now, what to do with the persimmons. any ideas?

Oh, and the Mexican pack was AMAZING!!! I was so excited I called my mom and told her I would bring it over. In exchange, I get to go enjoy her cooking for Sunday dinner. I am looking forward to that and hoping there will be some left overs for me to take for lunch on monday. :)
