My poor citrus trees never had a chance!
Jon & I are now the proud owners of four of the strangest looking trees in town. The last picture on the right just gives you a hint at how they all looked, pretty much all the way to the ground. I was amazed in what had happened in just one year. We had been cutting suckers from down around the base of them, but didn't realized how many were starting up higher and growing right through the tree canopies! Everyone that I pulled out looked like its own little tree. Now we know better and hopefully will keep them up better. This is NOT one of my favorite little household chores! Funny thing, it isn't one Jon's either! Go figure . . . .
When I got done, I sent a text to Jon asking him, 'Do you remember the hedge along the front walk in our Mesa house?" He was pretty much was a procrastinator even back then. So one afternoon while he was at work, I decided to help him out by breaking in our new hedge clippers. I started trimming those bushes down at about chest level. I guess my arms got tired because by the time I got to then end of them, I was down to waist level. They were a lovely row of very level sticks by the time I got done. So . . . .
He called me almost as soon as he got the text. I got this, "Yes, I do remember that hedge . . . WHY?" Oh the temptation was almost more than I could bear . . . I just told him that, "Mama's been busy this morning" . . . . "What did you do this time???" When I get a bee in my bonnet, he never knows if it will be a missing wall, missing carpet, trenches in the front yard, or what. He has never been bored . . . at least that is what he claims. He only seems to really mind when it means more work for him. I sent him pictures of the trees, not the pile he will have to dispose this weekend . . . why have all the fun at one time? Last time he came home to a pile of branches, it filled the entire front yard. This dinky little thing will be a piece of cake!
Garrett finally took my bait and chose to have carrots with his dinner instead of beets. He was pretty quick to say, "Just one carrot Nanny!" Finally! I made sure he was really sure that he only wanted one carrot. he was so cute when I brought out the mongo carrot. He started giggling and describing how BIG it was. When I told him to get to work so he would finish it in time to eat his macaroni before mama got here to pick him up for story time, he just laughed harder. Next thing I knew he had taken a big bite out of it. After he had eaten his third bite I told him it was a joke and he didn't have to eat it all. He laughed, but still didn't get it.
He thinks that my idea to make carrot cake was a great one. He wants to share it with Arianna and Tati, so he thinks we should make it tomorrow so it will be ready for their visit on Thursday morning with Daddy.

Glad you are back on your feet and driving your hubby out of his mind! It's only when we're really sick that they get a true break, right?
Love the carrot picture!
