This year Brianna and her students did the musical, "Little Women" . It was sure different that last year's production, "Grease", but I sure enjoyed it. The two musicals are so different, the two schools are SO different and the help she got from fellow staff members at the current school was SO different. So this year's play was pretty subdued in comparison, but I really enjoyed it.
Mariah and I had planned to go see it without any of the boys, but at the last minute, Gabe wanted to go, so I had a full lap the whole time so that he could see better. Worked out well, Arianna got to sit on Daddy's lap and Tati was on Aunt Mariah's. This took place after the kids had just sat through 3 hours of church, so I was pretty impressed on how well they all did!
Rob & Brianna planned ahead and had a quick picnic outside before it was time for the play to start.
Arianna is such a little dancer! I really wish that I could put her into dance lessons. She spins and spins, wherever she is.
Tati is our little runner. When I asked her to spin with Arianna, she started to run in circles. Same as always. I have seen her try to spin, but she must get dizzy or something, because the circle running taken it's place for her.
Next was time for the play. Here the four sisters were in the "attic" that Rob built . . . kind of like the house that Jack built . . ? I know, "boo". Rob seemed to really enjoy being here to help with the sets a little and be involved with the production. He's pretty proud of his talented wife as well he should be!
This is the Marsh's parlor. I was so impressed with the job on the sets and backdrops this year. You could tell there was some excellent influence and guidance from those with more experience. Makes for some good teaching opportunities!
This is Aunt Marsh's parlor. I had to chuckle when Bri called and asked me to send pics of my living room furniture . . . "what? there's furniture in there? Oh, it's buried under the food storage! OK". It is all collected from yard sales, most accidentally. Just driving up a street and WOW! Just right . . . with a new covering . . and good luck finding the right fabric! Anyway, it didn't look nearly as shabby or grungy on stage, as it is . . . still very embarrassing though.
This is the fire in the fireplace. Jon came up with the best way to keep the colored organza over the very hot light from melting. Turned out pretty well, huh?
Loved, loved the kids who did the sequences of Jo's stories. Talk about cute sense of humor, great art work on the backgrounds and just really wonderful combinations. It was so fun to see how the sets varied to keep the story going without anything going off the stage or the lights being turned down.
Then there is always the thank yous that come with the last performance. It seems like such a small thing for all the time and work that goes into these productions. When the teachers are married and raising families, it is a terrific sacrifice for them. Like most of us, I had now idea how much, when I was in high school. Brianna spends countless hours at the schools for this, her family spends those same hours taking care of the dollies when Rob is home and working full time or in classes. But thank goodness for talented souls who are able to arrange their lives and help the next generation find their way.

It was a lot of hard work. And we spent even our weekends there from January to the open on the show in mid-March. But I was very pleased with how it all turned out. It was wonderful to have a creative team to help me, and more resources than I have ever had to work with. It allowed us to create the amazing backdrops and such. It was a joy to see it all come together, and see the students blossom and glow with success. But I am sure glad to have a little time at home now! :) On to the next show! (Next year I'm going to do a WESTERN! Yee-haw!!!)
